Blogging from A to Z Challenge

Theme: Why I watch movies (as if I need a reason)...

Weather

Yes, weather is another reason I watch movies, but more-so since moving to Arizona. The scorching heat drives us indoors, and into the arms of movies. (Yet another way I use movies to Escape!)

I especially like going to the theater in the summer because they crank the air conditioning real cool and we don't have to pay the electric bill! (Well, maybe in the ticket price.) We are on a program with the electric company to minimize use of power between 3 to 6 pm, so our A/C doesn't run much--if at all--during those hours. That's a great time to head for a matinee rather than sit in our stuffy house.

Of course, we can't afford to go to the cinema every day, and even once a week would bite our pocketbook, but I can fantasize, right?

Last summer I spent two separate weeks tending grandkids. We watched a lot of movies, I tell ya. It was too hot to play outside. (Don't worry, we also read books and played games.)

I'm grateful for your movie suggestions during this challenge because I'll watch a bunch for my scheduled movie binge day in May (my reward for getting through April), and then... comes... summer. ☀️☀️☀️

What movies would you watch if cooped-up indoors?

  1. Oh, so many movies, so little time. Sometimes I actually wish for rain so I can do a movie marathon. I don't mind rewatching movies I have seen several times. Seems like the newer movies are not as great as they used to be. Maybe I'm just getting old and set in my ways. Ha! I recently watch "The Duchess" on Netflix while housesitting. I am not sure I would have watched it otherwise. I loved it and recommend it.

  2. Hi Trudy - I'm not into watching movies on my own ... but I know people who do, and friends or family who watch a movie anytime (usually in the evening here) - but England is not often heat insufferable outside!! I'm glad to say ... I do go to the cinema a lot - cheers Hilary

  3. I am not watching movies so I can not give a suggestion. :( I am prefering surf on the net when I am indoor.

  4. @Susan ... I agree, they don't make 'em like they used to... especially comedies. A lot of the movies on my Wanna See list are older ones.

I haven't seen The Duchess... I will add that to my list, thanks!

  5. @Hilary ... Maybe instead of cooling off in the cinema this summer, I should go to England!

  6. @ReHiTu ... Surfing the net can be a good activity while indoors, too, especially if I'm searching for movies.

  7. I find that as I get older I have little patience for movies. I find the patience for The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night," though.

  8. @John ... Thanks to your suggestion earlier in the challenge, I have "A Hard Day's Night" on my list to watch soon. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

  9. One summer day a long time ago, my boyfriend and I ducked into a theater to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind. On a muggy Wisconsin summer day, we found refuge for a couple hours courtesy of Steven Spielberg!

  11. Trudy,

I can watch just about anything and with streaming, it makes finding something good to watch easy peasy. We don't like being outdoors when the elements are extreme, so we do a lot of TV viewing, too. Often, I just go to our 'Watch List' either on Netflix or Amazon to get ideas, sometimes when there I might spot a new release or get a suggestion from previous viewings. It doesn't matter how we come up with a title, we soon find ourselves snuggled in the comfort of our living room with enough entertainment for hours and hours.

  12. @Cathy ... "Snuggled in the comfort of our living room with enough entertainment for hours..." sounds like a lovely way to escape extreme elements, for sure!
