Mood

Blogging from A to Z Challenge

Theme: Why I watch movies (as if I need a reason)...

Mood

Sometimes I watch a movie simply because I'm in the mood to watch a movie, and moods definitely influence my selections. I might feel like streaming a movie at home, other times I'm in the mood to see one at the cinema. And if you read the previous post--Laughter--you won't be surprised that I often watch movies to elevate my mood.

Certain movie moods hit me during holidays:

  • Valentine's Day in February calls for romantic movies. (Sing it... 🎵 "I'm in the mood for love simply because you're near me..." ♪)
  • In July I'm in the mood for patriotic movies.
  • Halloween movies in October (not horror, but fun ones geared for kids... that's the level of fright I can handle).
  • The day after Thanksgiving through the end of December I'm always in the mood for Christmas movies.

Are you in the mood for a movie? Based on your current mood, what movie would you select?

  1. These days I only watch DVD movies. I have a stack of movies to watch only in December for the holidays. But I like musicals to lift my mood; dramas to release tension; and comedies for a good laugh.

  2. @Gail ... You watch musicals to lift your mood... that made me realize I don't watch many musicals, and yet I know the power of music to lift my spirits. Maybe I'll try a musical next time I need a mood lift, instead of comedy. Or better yet... find a comedy musical!

  4. @Janet ... It seems like a new Christmas movies release each year, so it keeps us supplied, huh!

  5. Trudy,

We're the same way. We love to watch 'Groundhog Day' in February or any number of scary movies (no slasher flicks) for Halloween or Planes, Trains, & Automobiles for Thanksgiving and tons of Christmas films with National Lampoon Christmas Vacation at the top of our list in December. So, yeah mood comes into play with us when picking a movie at particular times during the year, too.

  7. Trudy,

There was a time we'd watch 'Sleepless in Seattle' for V-Days but haven't done that in years. Of course, we usually include a romantic comedy for the occasion without thinking about it.

  8. @Cathy ... The first time I saw Sleepless in Seattle it didn't grab me, but I gave it a second chance and really enjoyed it from then on. Hey... I'm going to add that to my list for my next movie binge day!
