Junket - Film Promotions

Junket - Film Promotions
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Kid Theater with Tom Hanks

When an actor does guest appearances on talk shows to promote a new movie, that's part of the film junket. I don't watch talk shows often, but when I do, I enjoy the celebrity interviews... sometimes they give me another reason to watch the upcoming movie!

The above video is my favorite junket interview of all time... Tom Hanks promoting Bridge of Spies (2015) on the Tonight Show. Granted, Tom Hanks is one of my favorite stars so there's a good chance I would have watched the movie anyway, but this hilarious promotion definitely sealed the deal.

Do you follow any talks shows regularly? Which one(s)? Do celebrity interviews help you decide whether or not you will watch the movie?

  1. On rare occasions I might watch a talk show and even more rarely will some celebrity convince me that I should watch their new movies. Most of the time these days I'll look at who's going to be on a talk show and I have no idea who most of these people are.

I miss the old shows like Johnny Carson. Everything wasn't politicized to the extent that it is now.

  2. Trudy,

I've heard the term 'junket' before and forgotten it until now. Like you, I'm a Tom Hanks fan and if the movie trailer intrigues me then chances are good I will watch it. I don't remember 'Bridge of Spies'. I have to look into it.

  4. @Cathy ... I think I first heard the term "junket" years ago when I belonged to an acting troupe. We used to go to various events in the community and perform short scenes from our plays letting people know about the shows. I loved doing those junket promotions.

  5. How cool is that to have Tom Hanks keep something you wrote! This was really cute.

  6. We stopped watching talk shows when Jay Leno retired. At that point, we discovered we didn't appreciate the "humor." The best by far was Johnny Carson.

  7. @Janet ... For sure! I imagine those kids were excited to have their scripts read on television, and then to have Tom Hanks keep it... way cool indeed!
