We watched Moana (2016) last Sunday, and I've had at least one song from the soundtrack caught in my head every day since. Moana earworms.
It started Monday morning with You're Welcome, a catchy tune sung by the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson). I mentioned the frustration to my husband, so he sang lyrics of Shiny, another song from the movie, in hopes that changing the tune would get the first song out of my head.
Nope. It only turned my earworm into a medley of both songs.
I looked up ways to get rid of earworms:
- Chew gum.
- Sing another song.
- Listen to another song.
- Chat with someone.
- Meditate.
- Visualize changing the channel inside your head to another song.
- Look up the lyrics.
- Listen to the song all the way through.
- Read a book.
- Do a puzzle.
- Relax. The earworm will pass.
That last one annoys me the most... the earworm will pass? Maybe someday, but it's now day six. I've tried every one of those suggestions and somehow only succeeded in adding yet another Moana tune to the medley, How Far I'll Go.
Maybe writing this blog post will help. Maybe it will pass those Shiny earworms on to you. You better believe it... yes, that's How Far I'll Go. And if you find those songs stuck in your head... well... what can I say except you're welcome! ...
... And thank you!
Dwayne Johnson - You're Welcome (from Moana)
This is hilarious. First, Dwayne can sing? Not really, but that's OK. I have suffered from ear worms forever, but didn't know the term. I had only heard the "listen to the song all the way through" solution. Who knew there were so many? Great post.
ReplyDelete"Thank You"!! PS did writing the post help?
Writing this post really did help! I have a new earworm: The Piano Guys "This is Your Fight Song. (https://youtu.be/mOO5qRjVFLw) It's nice to have something new playing in my head.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the post!
So funny. I actually put my hand over my ears as I was reading this as though the earworm could jump through the screen. I HATE when some kid's song from TV gets stuck in my head. Like singing Daniel Tiger's 'Going to the Potty' when I am off to the john.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny! Glad I don't know that song, or it would get stuck in my head, too!
DeleteI was not about to listen to this song as I have enough ear worms running in and out of my head. These days it typically will happen with my current Battle of the Bands songs, but then I'll listen to those over and over again until it's time for the next Battle and the next ear worm. But there are some songs that are always there for me like a mental response to whatever stimulus might hit me to trigger that song. Often they are the stupidest songs, but I guess that figures.

DeleteYes, often it's the stupidest songs that get stuck in my head, too. Yesterday it was an old advertising jingle for Fritos Corn Chips. Ay yi yi yi. I am the Frito Bandito.
